Jordan Peterson & Milo Yiannopoulos interview

Nový příspěvek od Dreamer »

For those of you who speak English, I would like to recommend this interview between Jordan B. Peterson (psychologist and very popular conservative thinker) and Milo Yiannopoulous (controversial "young" "far-right" figure).

If you're too young or don't remember Milo Yiannopoulous for some reason, let me remind you that he was a rising star of the far right, associated with Breitbart. He was very influential among conservatives in his time but was cancelled one day after an interview in which he stated that he was abused as a child but enjoyed it, was an active participant in the relationship, would never call his adult partner an "abuser", and most importantly that this type of relationship is very common among gays.

So about 7 years ago, "they" cancelled him. As of this (2019) interview, he is in the process of preparing for a comeback. The way he views the abuse has changed dramatically - he would shoot all "degenerates" who engage in these relationships, because they are "predatory and unethical". In the interview, he explains what changed his view on the matter.

There's also a brief discussion of Rind's study (yes, this one), and on the whole it's a very interesting conversation (not only) about sexual abuse and the evolution of the perspective on it.

PS: I don't follow either of them closely. Years ago, when the controversy broke out, I knew there was someone named Milo Yiannopoulos, but I didn't care much. Recently I listened to a some interviews with Jordan B. Peterson, and although I don't like his opinions much, I find them very interesting.

So I hope, no pedophile comes here with question "May I have sexual contact with child? Will the contact hurt the child or not?" and after reading/listening this story he will not think "Wow, great, this boy was abused and he enjoyed it. That's great. Then I can abuse other children too and they will be OK and will enjoy it like this man did".

I hope such a pedophile will read a lot of other stories about abused children who got psychical problems because of the abuse.

Thanks, I have listened to a short part related to abuse and found it quite reasonable how Milo reframed his experience, supposedly through being in touch with teenagers of similar age he was when abused. But I didn't give it my full attention, so it's possible I missed something vital.
